Title : Nursing experience in caring for a patient with spinal cord injury with paraplegia: A case report
Abstract:
This article presents a case study of a 35-year-old man who suffered from paralysis in both lower extremities and urinary dysfunction, leading to a sense of hopelessness about his future. Using a holistic approach that included physical assessments, interviews, and observations, nurses identified multiple health problems, including physical activity dysfunction, urinary pattern disorders, and hopelessness. Collaborating across team domains, nurses provided physical care, formulated rehabilitation plans, taught daily care functional skills, and used multimedia methods to teach intermittent catheterization skills. They also provided emotional support, encouraged the patient to express his feelings, and worked with him and his family to set goals and plans. I recommended establishing a case manager for people with spinal cord injury to provide follow-up counseling and psychological support. This nursing experience can serve as a reference for future treatment practices.
